Survivor Figi logoCBS is broadcasting the “Survivor: Fiji” season finale tonight in the typical 3 hour mega-block program. I’ve been following the series as I have time. Actually, I haven’t seen the last 2 episodes, so I have a bit of catching up to do this evening.
First observation: Who planned the Survivor finale for Mother’s Day? This sure doesn’t strike me as the way most mothers want to spend the evening. Then again, maybe the demographic is strongly female? Who knows?!?
Second observation: It seems the producers have done a better job of shaking things up this season so that the progression of the show is somewhat unpredictable.
Third observation: Overall I am most impressed with Yau-Man. I think if he wins he will be the oldest “Sole Survivor.” He has shown wits, wisdom, and the ability to create both trust and respect from his fellow contestants. However, he isn’t the most physically powerful and that could be his downfall.
So, my vote (as if I actually get one) is for Yau-Man to outwit them all and to become the champion -- with character and class.
Update (5/14/2007):
Well, Yau-Man didn't win. His somewhat fatherly trust of "Dreamz" (who seems a bit delusional in that he can convince himself of his own mental 'spin'/rationalization) did him in. However, he still managed to come out of the game as a member of the very rare club -- Survivor contestants who showed cunning intelligence, classy human relations, humility, and maturity.
Thankfully Earl (Yau-Man's closest ally) managed to win -- with the first-ever unanimous decision by the jury. Earl also showed a lot of class and played a good game while maintaining a significant amount of trustworthiness.
Good show!
