Just a Thought

People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within.

When Color is not Better

Graphic Design, Odd & Unexpected, Research

KromofonsKromofonsI ran across an online article today about Kromofons, a new "invention" (35 years in the making) that transforms the English alphabet letters into 26 blocks of color.

Eye in the Sky

Graphic Design, Odd & Unexpected, Web Development

Someone Watching?Someone Watching? The SonQuest Christian youth event is now 3 months away. This week, I received new information from the SonQuest organizing committee. So, I've been working on a website update and (more ambitious) a new site design that supports this year's theme -- "The Final Frontier - 2007: A Faith Odessy."

Who makes the best chicken?

Odd & Unexpected, Parenting

Last night I took my daughter on a "Joie/Daddy" date. (This means we left Sarah home for some peace and quiet.) I'd already been thinking about doing this when I picked Joie up from daycare. She was in a good mood, but quiet as I put her in my car. So, I asked her, "do you want to do anything special tonight?"

She immediately replied, "I wanna eat at restaurant. Umm... Chick-fil-a!" Which was exactly what I already had in mind.

Mutual Submission

Bible Study

I got the chance to visit a different Meridian Woods Young Families LIFE Group this Friday.  (Ours was unable to meet.)  So, instead of studying a chapter of Luke, we spend an hour or so discussing the meaning and practical application of a chapter from Ephesians.  It just happened to be Chapter 5 which focuses on submission -- a somewhat controversial topic in today’s culture.

Thoughts on the Survivor Season Finale

Entertainment / Recreation

Survivor Figi logoSurvivor Figi logoCBS is broadcasting the “Survivor: Fiji” season finale tonight in the typical 3 hour mega-block program. I’ve been following the series as I have time. Actually, I haven’t seen the last 2 episodes, so I have a bit of catching up to do this evening.

First observation: Who planned the Survivor finale for Mother’s Day? This sure doesn’t strike me as the way most mothers want to spend the evening. Then again, maybe the demographic is strongly female? Who knows?!?

BrowserShots - Your Website in Different Browsers

Graphic Design, Web Development

Today I found a great, free web design resource. Browsershots.org is an online service that takes any web address (URL) that you enter and attempts to create screenshots in multiple browsers and multiple platforms. This is extremely helpful to me as a way to test a graphic design/website layout in Microsoft Internet Explorer on Windows -- a browser that is notorious for Cascading Style Sheet layout bugs.

Summer '07 Classes Begin

Academic Studies

The inter-semester break is over (already!?).  Today the website for my online course "Introduction to Systematic Design of Instruction" became available.  After reading the syllabus and course calendar, I have a pretty good idea what I’m in for.

Best and Worst of Beach Camping

Family Life, Travel

Best: Having a child very excited about experiencing a new adventure.
Worst: Watching the sun start to set as the drive to the campsite takes longer than expected.

It Happened One Night

Hometown News, Odd & Unexpected

Tallahassee MagazineTallahassee MagazineCarlin Trammel, a good friend of ours, works for the company that publishes "Tallahassee Magazine" as the traffic director for Tallahassee products. Still, his true passion is video production, and so he makes opportunities to use his talents whenever possible.

Back from our Mini-Vacation

Family Life, Travel

St. George IslandSt. George IslandSix or eight weeks ago, Sarah suggested that we make plans for our first-ever family camping trip. The two of us have talked about the possibility of going on a camping trip ever since we got married. Still, we'd never actually done it. With Joie now two-and-a-half years-old, the possibility of camping is back -- even though some people think we're absolutely nuts for trying with such a young child. Sarah had been talking with friends at work and peeked around online.
